I just sat there on the bed crying.

No, I was balling. Everything seemed to be falling apart in 2001.

My husband suddenly got fired from his job. We had way more bills than money. We’d just
welcomed a new baby girl and didn’t know how in the world to make ends meet.

People would look at us with those pitiful eyes. Some would say things like, “I heard about your
husband getting fired. Wow. What are you guys gonna do?” as if I knew the answer.

For months, Kenya couldn’t find work. No one would hire him and we were trying to live off of
less than $250 per week in unemployment.

Since I’d just had a baby, I wasn’t even well enough to work yet.

That day, alone in the bedroom, I wasn’t expecting to break down and tell God about how I
couldn’t take it anymore. I thought I was handling it.

And that was the problem.

I was trying to handle it without His help. I was relying on my own strength, positivity, and ability
to make it through. I thought I was strong, but really, I was oh so weak.

Emotionally, I was drained.

While holding our newborn daughter in my arms, though, I turned those woe-is-me tears into a
God-I-trust-you prayer, and really meant it. Right there, I cast my cares on the Lord.

I knew if He didn’t help us through it, we wouldn’t be helped.

When I laid my burdens down, even though our situation did not change for quite some time, I
had peace. Our money was still short, but I had an abundance of joy. I started getting up
before daylight to meet with God.

I would pray, read my word, and let Him fill me up with everything I needed to make it through
the day. Instead of projecting into the future and trying to figure out how everything was going
to work, I began to pray, “God, give me this day, my daily bread.”

And He did it.

Day by day, the Lord ministered to me.

I stopped worrying and started leaning on His everlasting arm.

Talk about feeling free!

I remember a few months after, my husband and I went out to a church convention and
someone walked up to us with that familiar “Oh that’s too bad” look. It took a minute to figure
out what they were all distraught over, because we had moved so far beyond that phase of
anxiety and distress.

Had Kenya found work yet?

Nope.

Had anything at all changed?

Sure hadn't.

But, you know what? God had transformed our thinking, comforted us in our affliction, and
given us supernatural power to go through.

Eventually, a new opportunity opened up—far better than the one Kenya lost. He didn’t even
apply for the position. Someone came seeking Him out about it.

Won’t God do it?

Looking back on it, we realized that before God brought us out of the situation, He was
teaching us how to trust Him in the middle of it. All along, the Lord knew what He was going to
do. The way was already made. But we had to learn to place our faith and confidence, not in
outside circumstances, but in the one who reigns over our circumstances.

Friend, you might be struggling in this season and facing hard trials. The trouble could be in
your finances, health, relationships, career, business, or even, your emotions. But whatever
you’re dealing with, know that that, this opposition is God’s opportunity to show you that He’s a
keeper.

He wants you to trust Him and lean on Him for everything you need. He will supply every single
one.

To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Psalm 37:25 NIV into your cup of inspiration, which says,
“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children
begging bread.”

When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded that God will never
forsake you. He has a good plan for your life and will take care of you. But you have to trust
His heart, when you can’t trace His hand.

You may not know what He’s doing, but you know who He is: a good, loving, compassionate
Father.

Remember, Jeremiah 17:7 says, "But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose
confidence is in him.”

Now let’s pray.

Life can leave us parched, but Jesus can quench
our thirst.
