It was a great day for an early evening brisk powerwalk, so I headed outdoors with my husband
Kenya over the weekend.

Typically, he goes out on his own route in the mornings and rests on Saturdays and Sundays.
But I decided I wanted a walking buddy on one of his off days, so he agreed.

As we headed out, I was feeling energetic and ready to sweat it out for about a half hour. We
got off to a good start, picked up the pace early on and got our hearts racing, while sharing
conversation.

Though the sun was beaming, making it a little hotter than I prefer for outdoor exercising, it
was a lovely day.

Well, about 5 minutes into the walk, I felt a dull ache in my left leg. A few steps more and that
dull ache turned into a stabbing pain.

“Ouch!” I yelped.

“My leg,” I said through clenched teeth. “I don’t know what’s wrong with it.”

I grimaced as the pain intensified, shooting up the front of my leg each time I put weight on my
foot.

“What does it feel like?” Kenya asked, trying to figure out my exact symptoms. If anyone, other
than a medical doctor, could give a good educated guess, it’s him. He was an award-winning
runner in high school, who is set to be inducted into the local Hall of Fame for cross country
and track this year. So he knows a thing or two about athletic injuries.

After I told him what I was experiencing, he said “Oh. That sounds like a shin splint that’s
causing pain in the lower front part of your leg.” Needless to say, our little powerwalk was cut
short as I hobbled back home, annoyed.

I’m feeling better today, but I can’t do any aggressive walking or jogging until my leg gets
better. “Relative rest” is what the doctor prescribes—icing and taking it easy.

Just great.

My efforts to do something positive—keep my body and heart healthy—ended in pain and
injury, just like many of life’s circumstances.

Have you ever gotten hurt trying to do a good thing?

We all have and it doesn’t feel good at all.

Perhaps you helped somebody that took you for granted; loved someone genuinely that
betrayed you; sacrificed your time and resources for something that fell through; put yourself
out there in some way, only to end up devastated and crushed.

Even though it can be disheartening when you sustain physical, psychological, or emotional
injury while doing a noble deed, if you rest in God and let Him direct you, He’ll nurse you back
to health.

He knows how to heal our wounds; ease our pain; calm our fears; hold our hand when others
have walked away; reassure us when we’re feeling doubtful; and build us back up again once
we have been broken down.

I know it can be hard to make sense of what feels like unfair suffering. Everything in you wants
to know why. You begin over-analyzing and working hard to understand the cause. But
everything we go through doesn’t make sense.

There are some seasons when we just have to trust God to put the broken pieces back
together again. He’ll do it.

Whatever you’re dealing with today—whatever the hurt or pain—give it over to the Lord and let
Him handle it.

To remind you to do this, I’m stirring Psalm 55:22 MSG into your cup of inspiration. It says,
"Pile your troubles on GOD’s shoulders—he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out. He’ll never let
good people topple into ruin.”

When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded that the Lord is there for
you, no matter what you’re facing. You don’t have to deal with hurts, obstacles, hardships and
burdens all alone.

Let Him be your rock, healer, defender, refuge, strength, and the compassionate lover of your
soul.

Now let’s pray.

Life can leave us parched, but Jesus can quench
our thirst.

God, it feels extra painful when I’m wronged while trying to do right. Despite my
best efforts, when things fall apart, I feel helpless, confused and frustrated. So
thank You for reminding me that, when I feel weak, I can lean on Your strength,
trust You to be my comfort, and expect You to build up any area that is broken
down. I know You’ll bring me through this victoriously. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
