The change was so sudden and the onset so quick, it scared me.
Our youngest daughter, Kaiah, 11, was laughing, talking and playing with her big sister over
the weekend. The very next moment, she turned pale, began moaning, complaining of a
piercing pain in her head, and started vomiting.
Both Kenya and I were unsure of what to think, particularly since Kaiah had no fever earlier in
the day. She hadn’t been lethargic or complaining of any discomfort. This seemed out of the
blue.
Kaiah told us she had never felt anything quite as painful as what she was experiencing. On
the pain scale, with 10 being the highest, she measured hers at about an “8.”
Again, it was startling.
As you might imagine, we rushed to call the doctor, who expressed some genuine concerns
about Kaiah’s condition. All the manifestations in her body appeared to be pointing toward
something serious.
But, without going into every detail, in the end, she was just fine and there is nothing seriously
wrong. Thank God for that! The following day, all her symptoms completely dissipated and she
was back to her usual self again.
Before all was resolved, however, I remember breaking out our family bottle of anointing oil,
laying hands, and praying for God to give deliverance and relief. While we know the natural
doctor can be effective at identifying, targeting, and treating an issue, God is the Chief
Physician, able to heal all manner of ailments and diseases.
Well, after interceding for our daughter, her condition did not immediately change. Inwardly, I
felt anxious and my mind started racing, that is, until I sensed the voice of the Holy Spirit
speaking to me, saying, “Don’t pray and panic. Trust me.”
After hearing those words, I felt a sense of calm come over me. The Lord snapped me out of
that fearful state by reminding me that I would either be a panicky worrywart or a prayer
warrior, but I couldn’t be both.
So I chose to remain steadfast in prayer and faith as I rebuked the devil and resisted worrying.
You have to do the same thing.
In life, things can go from calm to chaotic in just moments. Situations will get out of hand and
issues, at times, will spiral out of control. Nevertheless, God wants you to trust Him and
remember whose hands everything is in. Know who holds the power. Remember who is able to
do all things. Remind yourself of who is always in control, even when your life feels out of
control.
Whatever the problem, no matter how urgent, God wants you to rest in Him.
Don’t pray and panic.
To remind you to stand firmly in faith and resist worry, I’m stirring Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) into
your cup of inspiration, which says:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded that faith-filled prayer
gives peace in any circumstance, but worry steals it in every circumstance.
What is happening in your life today, despite what it looks like, is not too complicated, difficult,
or hard for God to solve it. Put it in His hands. He’ll take care of you.
Now let’s pray.
