Everything was going smoothly.
My assistant and I were on our way to a regional event right on schedule. No last minute
emergencies popped up. We felt relaxed. It was all good. Before leaving, she made sure to
double-check the address of the venue and confirm it with the event organizer. We made
certain we wouldn’t wind up lost.
Once the appropriate location was entered into the GPS system, everywhere the voice
navigation told us to turn, we obeyed. Finally, after about an hour, we heard, “Your destination
is on your right.” But when we looked across the street, there were only small buildings—none
of which were the right place.
Confused, she and I frowned at each other and then, scanned the location again, feeling more
perplexed.
The street name matched our instructions. The address on one of the dilapidated buildings
corresponded with the confirmed information we had on hand. So why was nothing adding up?
After riding around hearing navigational instructions—“New route… go .3 miles and turn…” or
“Make a legal U-turn when possible”—we were pretty spent and tired of the never-ending
journey to nowhere.
When we tried to phone our contact person, we were sent straight to voice mail.
Helpless, we sat there, assuming that this would just be a missed opportunity. There was
nothing we could do. After some time passed, however, we received a call back. For a few
moments, we went back and forth, trying to explain what was going on to the coordinator.
Then, a breakthrough happened.
“Oh, I know what you guys did wrong,” he said and proceeded to tell us there were two streets
with the same name, going in two completely different directions. Obviously, we had chosen
the wrong path, although it seemed right.
Had we been familiar with the city, we would have known this. Even our navigational system,
though typically accurate, wasn’t smart enough to pick up on the nuances of the landscape. It
wasn’t until we spoke to someone who was familiar with what was unfamiliar to us, that we
gained the clarity and understanding we needed to reach our destination.
My friend, in life, there is no way you can know all there is to know about where God is taking
you. You and I cannot foresee all the unforeseen circumstances that will come knocking on our
door. No matter how effectively we try to navigate our way through, there are some things only
the Lord can reveal.
He is sovereign and all-knowing. He sees the end from the beginning. That’s why it is so
important to trust Him, instead of trying to get out in front of Him.
Without Him, we would be walking blindly through life, simply doing the best we could to get by.
But with Him, we have a daily guide, leading us to our place of destiny, one step at a time.
Today, if you feel frustrated because you have been doing your very best to cover all the
bases and navigate your way correctly, only to find yourself at what feels like a dead end, this
is your word.
God wants to be your “inside man,” telling you secret things you cannot know on your own and
orchestrating your purpose in a way no one else can.
From this day forward, He wants you to give everything over to Him. Through this process,
though aggravating at times, He is showing you that no matter how smart, determined, or
prepared you may be, you will still hit a dead end without Him on your side, helping, leading
and guiding you.
This is a God-sized job. It’s too big for you. Give it to the Lord. Let Him handle it.
To remind you to lean on the Father’s everlasting arm, I’m stirring Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV into
your cup of inspiration.
It says, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will
be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when
heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails
to bear fruit.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you’ll realize that you have no need to worry
when your faith and confidence is in God.
Take your eyes off your strength and realize that the One who is strong and mighty will take
care of you. He has it all under control.
Rest in Him.
Now let’s pray.
