I walked into my parents’ house for a visit, as the family was gathered around the television.
Someone had pulled up a YouTube video and connected it to the big screen television so it
could be displayed in full view, and heard in surround sound.

“This person is talking about you and saying all kinds of bad stuff about you on YouTube,”
said one of my sisters, no sooner than I had gotten through the doorway.

Feeling confused, I asked, “What do you mean?” assuming she was joking. But no, she was
100% serious. Somehow, a family member had stumbled across a video rant against me online.
A man was calling me all sorts of names because I had interviewed and featured some
Christians he didn’t like in EEW Magazine.  Since my publication was sharing their message
and story, this person, whom I had never met or heard of before, was slandering me. His words
were very harsh, direct and pointed.

He literally said my website was “demonic” and I was “of the devil.”

I stood there with my mouth gaping open.
Me? Of the devil? Really? I thought.

After hearing his rants for about three minutes, I must admit, it felt really weird. I had never
experienced anything like that prior to that moment, standing in my mom and dad’s living room,
half in shock.

After those few minutes of taking in that vitriolic verbal tirade, though, I said, “Wow, that’s
terrible. That’s enough for me. I don’t want to hear anymore.”

I then walked away, because I knew he was misguided in his understanding and I did not want
to fill my heart, mind and spirit with that sort of negativity. I also asked my family, going forward,
that if they heard anything like that, not to tell me about it. Some things did not need to have
space inside my brain.

That was about two years ago.

Though his vicious assault on my character never got legs or gained any credibility, it
confirmed something I already knew: whenever you are moving forward in purpose, people will
misunderstand, dislike, and sometimes, even attack you. But you have to know who you are
and what God has called you to do.

Despite the ugliness you face or the drama the enemy uses other people to stir up in order to
stop your progress, you must stay focused on the One who anointed and appointed you in the
first place.

As you go through life, no matter how sweet, well-intentioned, loving and sincere you are,
someone will find fault with you. You will be lied on, mistreated, talked about and even
shunned. But don’t be discouraged. Don’t quit. Don’t get off focus.

So what if others come against you. No weapon formed against you will prosper. When God is
on your side, you don’t have to worry about who’s not.

In fact, if you know in your heart you are doing what pleases God, then, don’t get down,
depressed, sad, or despondent over pushback, insults and venom spewed your way. You
know why? Because the word of God calls you blessed.

According to Matthew 5:11 NLT, which I am stirring into your cup of inspiration today, “God
blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of
evil things against you because you are my followers.”

When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will realize that obedience to God invites
attacks from the enemy, but you are still blessed; still anointed; still chosen; still called; still
favored, despite what they say.

So confidently do you, the way God has told you to.

Be encouraged and know that if you continue walking out His will, great things are in store for
your life.

Now let’s pray.

Life can leave us parched, but Jesus can quench
our thirst.

and I remain obedient to you, no weapon formed against me will be able to
