So, I was all set and ready for bed last night. But right before my head hit the pillow, I realized I
didn’t have a specific household item I really needed, which required me to run to the store
before turning in for the evening.
I slapped on a baseball cap, grabbed the keys and headed for the market.
It wasn’t until I was inside shopping and flashing big smiles at those who said hello, that I
realized I had forgotten to remove my retainers from my teeth!
I started cracking up when I recognized what I had done.
About 10 years ago, out of the blue, my jaw started popping constantly when I opened my
mouth widely. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I ended up going to the
orthodontist.
He told me that a malocclusion was the culprit. My jaw was out of alignment and braces were
the only answer.
At first, my husband Kenya and I weren’t thrilled about the excessive cost, but it was something
we needed to do.
During the process, the aggressive molding, shaping, pressing, and structuring of my teeth
that had to be done in order to fix what was wrong, was so unpleasant.
Dr. Rucker used to tell me, “This will hurt, but you’ll thank me later.”
Whew! It was not fun.
Yet, I survived.
After the braces were removed, I was informed that I would have to wear retainers for the rest
of my life.
So, last night, some people may have been slightly confused as to why my teeth appeared so
shiny, encased in that transparent plastic mouth apparatus.
What I do to keep my teeth in alignment, usually takes place behind closed doors, outside of
public view. Random strangers don’t get to see what I have to go through in order to make
sure my previous orthodontic issues don’t return.
These days, I know Dr. Rucker was right. What he did was for my good and I am thankful I paid
the cost, despite the temporary pain.
My friend, sometimes, what God allows you to go through in order to bless you, is painful.
Being molded, shaped and conformed into His will ain’t no rock-n-roll show.
You'll have to cry, go through hurts and endure setbacks. But after you suffer,
you’ll look back on it and say, God, I thank You! It was worth it.
I’m here to tell you, it may not feel good, but it’s working for your good. It truly is.
You have to tell yourself, I might go through for a little while, but I’m coming out better,
stronger, wiser, and more prepared to fulfill God’s ultimate plan for my life.
To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Romans 8:18 NIV into your cup of inspiration, which
says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be
revealed in us.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you’ll be encouraged by knowing that, even
though every day may not be easy, going through is worth it, because it positions you to
receive every good and perfect gift that comes from God.
You can make it. You can do all things through Christ. No matter what, be encouraged. The
Lord is on your side through it all.
Hang in there!
Now let’s pray.
