It’s That Time: Marvin Sapp Planning Live CD/DVD
Recording
Article By Angela Soffin:: EEW Magazine Entertainment News
Despite his confession in January that his music career felt like grueling “work” and was no longer “fun,” 46-
year-old RCA Inspiration recording artist, Marvin Sapp, is in the early stages of planning a new project.
After a private conversation with label executive Joseph Burney, who is the newly minted Vice President of A&R
for RCA Inspiration, the Michigan-based singer took to Twitter to solicit suggestions on where he should hold
his next recording.
“Just got off the phone with the VP of A&R of my record company…ITS TIME TO RECORD!!!” Sapp wrote
Tuesday, Feb. 25, adding the hashtag, “#ItJustGotReal”.
Then, approximately an hour later, he returned to his social networking page with a specific query for his
followers: “#NeedYourHelp What major city should I record my new CD/DVD in?”
Perhaps new music is just what the doctor ordered to infuse joy back into Sapp’s music career.
In an interview with The KD Bowe Show, he said of his current music-related obligations, “It’s like, you gotta get
up, you gotta go sing and you get a check, and that’s cool.”
He continued, “But when you’re doing it for a living, it’s not the same as when you’re doing it [out of passion]—
even though you’re getting paid for it, it [is better when it] has that level of fun.”
He may not be having a good time, but the legion of supporters who love Sapp’s music feel quite the opposite
about the melodies they depend on to uplift their souls.
Most recently, Sapp released “Christmas Card,” his first holiday album, in December 2013. Yet, almost four
long years have passed since the 2010 release of his chart-topping project, Here I Am. It sold nearly 80,000
copies in its first week, making him the highest charting gospel artist in Billboard's 54-year history of tracking
album sales.
Here I Am was recorded live on October 16, 2009 at Resurrection Life Church in Wyoming, Michigan—the
artist’s home state.
This time around, the Grammy-nominated, Stellar and Dove Award-winning singer-songwriter may branch out
beyond the borders of the familiarity of Michigan—something else that just may reawaken a much-needed
sense of excitement.
