We all like to pray, “Lord, bless me," but when He puts us into a season of new things, such as a new job or a new relationship, we tend to shy away.
We underestimate the fact that He will do more than we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20), and as a result, we tense up when He pushes us into a position we didn’t think we’d be in.
Admit it: change is a hard thing to adjust to. When situations change, you have to change with them— and that can be crazy uncomfortable; trust me, I know. It’s when the old is passed away and the new has come that we need a dose of courage to help us through.
I don’t believe in “liquid courage”, because I draw all my strength from the Bible, which I call literary courage.
Within God’s Word lies all the bravery you need, if you simply search for it. So today, I invite you to examine the roadmap the Lord has laid out for this new adventure you’re embarking on, starting with these 5 scriptures:
Joshua1:9 (ESV) “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Seasons change, but they do so only under the hand of God. Don’t freak out; just as He led you up to this point, He’ll lead you through this point.
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You can take on any task when you let Christ bear the burden; that is to say, if You trust the Lord to guide you and provide for you on this new journey, I promise that nothing He has tasked you with will weigh you down. His strength, not yours, will empower you to do more than you ever imagined!
1 Chronicles 16:11 (ESV) “Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!” You won’t know what to do with the blessings the Lord is raining down on you if you don’t continue to seek Him. It’s like this: imagine you finally bought that new piece of furniture you’ve been pining for, but neglect to read the instructions on assembling it. Ultimately, you’re going to be overwhelmed trying to figure out something you’re unfamiliar with. If you come into a season of greater things in your life, but neglect to look to the Lord for guidance, you’re going to be overwhelmed and stuck in a situation you don’t know how to handle.
Philippians 2:13 (NLT) “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” This ties the previous three points I made together; you can’t do anything without the Lord, because He is the one who gives you the courage to take on this new situation, the strength to push through, and the desire to fulfill your destiny! So rest assured that if God placed you in this position, He has fully equipped you to master it.
Psalm 56:3 (NKJV) “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.” When you lay your worries at the feet of our Savior, He will give you peace. Faith is fear-repellent, so put your full confidence in God, and your anxieties will be replaced with bold anticipation of what the Lord is doing.
Change can be nerve-wracking, but if you remain firmly planted on the Rock, you will remain stable through the shift you’re experiencing.
