By Sheila Walsh:: HEALTH & LIFESTYLE
What’s wrong with going vegan, ditching the meat and dairy in your
diet, in exchange for a healthier lifestyle? Apparently, a whole lot—at
least, in the minds of those who criticized Christian reality TV star and
author, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, once she went public about it.
“I became a vegan and I was getting bullied a lot on Twitter,” she said
during a sit-down interview, discussing her reasons for partnering with
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Ironically, PETA, which, she said, came to her rescue, has a notorious
reputation for bullying others who don’t support their worldview. “Peta
reached out to me and they said, ‘Girl, we gotcho back,” Mowry-
Hardrict says.

“And they sent so many cooking books and pamphlets about Peta, and I was like, wow, this is really cool.”
That educational process led to the current relationship the star is presently publicizing through a “Let
Veganism Grow On You Campaign,” where, in the ad, she is adorned in an apron made of lettuce, clutching an
apple, with more fruit in the backdrop to create an organic feel.
“I wanted to become a voice for my community. That’s one of the main reasons I decided to be a part of this
Peta ad campaign, because I wanted to educate my culture about the benefits of becoming vegan.”
But embracing such a lifestyle is not popular among many groups. “There’s a stigma about being vegan,”
Mowry-Hardrict notes—something she’s hoping to change by increasing awareness of veganism, adding, “Don’t
knock it ‘til you try it.”
