Happy (Early) 59th Birthday Serita Jakes

First Lady Serita Ann Jakes will officially celebrate turning 59 years old Tuesday, August 19.

But the author and wife of Mega Pastor T.D. Jakes got an early tribute Sunday morning at the Potter’s House in
Dallas.

Singing, dancing, gifts, flowers and grand speeches from her daughters Cora Coleman and Sarah Jakes,
brought the sentimental women’s ministry leader to tears.

During her speech, Sarah recalled a moment when Lady Serita had knee surgery.

“I was in the hospital with her,” she said, “and part of my responsibility was to make sure that she gets through
the night okay. And she gets up in the middle of the night to go to the restroom and she falls, and she’s crying.”

During that tense time, the shaken up daughter said, “I’m like ready to resign as a daughter. My mom’s on the
floor. But she got back up, and she said ‘I’m okay.’”

From that, the Colliding with Destiny author told the congregation her mother has taught her “the power of
getting back up again.” They applauded.

Each year, the Jakes family goes all out for the family matriarch to express their love and gratitude.

During the 2013 birthday tribute, Bishop Jakes unveiled a striking oil painting created by Frederick Hightower.

“It is you up and down,” he told his smitten wife.

The powerful pair has been married 32 years.

“So, long after you and I are gone, the kids, and the grand kids, and the great grand kids, they will know that
you, with all of your class [were here].”
