WATCH: Rapper Lecrae Addresses Those Who Accuse Him Of
‘Selling Out’
By Linda Harvey:: EEW Magazine News Reporter

If you’re hoping Grammy Award-winning rap lyricist Lecrae Moore, 33,  who prefers not to be labeled a
“Christian” rapper, will be more in-your-face and direct about addressing sin in his media interviews, according
to him, “you’ll be disappointed.”

In a video interview with Rapzilla.com, the Reach Records Co-Founder and artist said he’s more interested in
emphasizing grace than condemnation, and is careful to walk the line when it comes to maintaining balance
between both his Christian and secular associations, to avoid unnecessary controversy.

“You know, the media loves sensationalism and I just try not to give them an opportunity to sensationalize
anything I say,” he explained. “They also love to pigeon-hole Christians and put us back in, I don’t know man,
the early 90s, late 80s when Christianity was really like, all about pointing out the wrong things in culture.”

The condemnatory approach, in his mind, is from a bygone era. Back then, Moore continued, “It was real, like,
you know, from a political standpoint, all like, hey this is what Christianity does. We smash CDs and steamroll
‘em. We’re against this. We’re against that, and really not seeing it as grace-based [or] grace-oriented.”

He wants no parts of that.

“I just don’t want to contribute to the sensationalism [the way] that people assume we are as Christians,” he
continued.

Not only is the husband and father interested in changing the world’s perception of Christians, but also,
salvaging close knit ties with many of the mainstream figures of which the faith community deeply disapproves.
“I have personal relationships with a lot of these dudes off the mic, off the camera,” he shared.

“You’re not gonna see the full gamut of what my ministry looks like from an interview."

Anticipating the negative feedback, he added, "You’re gonna say, ‘See, you’re selling out.’ And, I mean, at the
end of the day, man, tell Jesus when we get to heaven man. Tell on me man,” he laughed.
