(EEW Magazine) A Tennessee wife and mother who once sang backup up for Grammy-winning Christian
contemporary recording artist and Season 5 American Idol finalist Mandisa Hundley, is now singing in Heaven’s

40-year-old Lakisha Mitchell died of breast cancer after making the tough decision to reduce the intensity of
her chemotherapy treatments to spare the life of her then unborn son.

Tennessee News Channel 5 reports that Lakisha and her husband Breonus Mitchell, a pastor at Greater Grace
Temple Community Church, discovered her cancer in December 2012. At the same time, the couple learned
Lakisha was pregnant with their second son, Brennon.

She was told that easing up on chemo treatments of the cancer that was already in late stage 3 when doctors
found it, would mean shortening Lakisha’s lifespan.

Yet, she chose to do what was best for their son, putting her own needs second.

“She made the choice either to pursue aggressive treatment for the cancer or to go with her pregnancy,” her
grieving husband explained. “Doctors had told us that [her] life span and all that had got cut down at that point.”
As he watched a video of Lakisha singing a lullaby to their son, Breonus wiped away tears, knowing that his wife’
s arms will never again hold their son.

In a heartfelt June 29th Facebook post Mandisa shared her thoughts. “A great friend dying of cancer would be
too much to bear without the peace and hope of heaven. I'll miss her spunk, laugh, beautiful voice and
unshakeable faith.”

The “Overcomer” singer added, “Now she's seeing the fruit of that faith as she worships Jesus face to Face. I
long for the day I'll join her.”

Lakisha died in her husband Breonus's arms Sunday, June 29.
