Fantasia Uses Scripture To Comfort Her In The Loss of Her
Grandmother + See Photo Tribute

Psalm 91 is one of the scriptural passages providing comfort to R&B singer Fantasia Barrino as she mourns the loss of
her grandmother, a preacher, Apostle Addie Collins.

The American Idol alum, 30, shared the passage on Instagram days after admitting she’s “not taking it well.”

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable
and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty
[Whose power no foe can withstand],” says the beautiful and popular first verse in the Amplified translation.

Barrino also shared verse 2, which says, “I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean
and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!”

It is not surprising that Barrino is relying on the word of God to comfort her soul.

She is a church girl at heart and grew up singing at Mercy Outreach Church of Deliverance in Highpoint, NC, which was
led by her grandmother. Barrino's mother, Diane Barrino, for a time, was co-pastor.

Apostle Collins, who has been a rock for the singer during life’s turbulent twists and turns, was the one who knew
Barrion was pregnant at 17, despite denying it.

“My grandmother already knew—she came into my room and said, ‘You're pregnant.’ I said, ‘No, ma'am,’ but she told
my mother I had to see a doctor,” Barrino revealed in an
Oprah Magazine interview.

Despite how hard it is to say goodbye and keep going, Barrino wrote a personal message to her grandmother on
Instagram: “Baby I'll hold on. When I'm standing on my last leg. When they talked about me like a DOG!! You.... You
kept me going. Lord!!! Not taking it Well Poo but I'll hold on.”
