Christian Neurosurgeon Ben Carson Officially Announces His Bid For
Presidency [VIDEO]

After some speculation, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has officially announced he is running for
president.

The news was delivered to a crowd in his hometown of Detroit with these simple words: “I’m Ben Carson
and I’m a candidate for president of the United States.”

This is the first time the former head of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins hospital has ever run
for public office. Despite his inexperience, the author and well-known speaker has strong support among
conservatives who are poised to help boost his campaign.

Carson, a Republican, is the only high-profile African-American to enter the GOP presidential primary; it
remains to be seen how he will be received among minorities.

"I'm probably never going to be politically correct because I'm not a politician," Carson said. "I don't want
to be a politician. Because politicians do what is politically expedient — I want to do what's right."

During his speech, he also touched on the unrest in Baltimore and what mentality is at the core of the
riots.

"They don't feel that life is going to be good for them, no matter what happens, so when an opportunity
comes to loot, to riot, to get mine, they take it, not believing that there is a much better way to get the
things that they desire," Carson explained.

The leader who strives to be relatable, often talks about how he grew up poor in Detroit and went on to
earn degrees from Yale and the University of Michigan.

He has written six best-selling books and was ranked the sixth most admired man in the world according
to results from a 2014 Gallup poll.
