Tamela Mann Wins 7 Stellar Awards + Celebrates Milestone At
(Drumroll Please!) McDonald’s
By Ann Dunham: EEW Magazine News
This is her season—finally. TillyMann gospel recording artist Tamela Mann is riding high after taking home a
whopping seven Stellar Award trophies this year, also winning the most coveted honor: artist of the year.
After the 47-year-old "Take Me To The King" singer racked up at the 29th annual awards ceremony at the
Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, she knew exactly how she wanted to celebrate.
“After winning seven Stellars, Tamela Mann decided she wanted to get something real good to eat so she can
go and lay down. So where did you come?” asked her husband, David Mann, while filming an impromptu social
cam video.
“Mcdonald’s,” the multiple award-winner said and then began singing, “This is my kind of place.”
Beneath the golden arches, for the down-home southern belle, seemed the perfect “kind of place” to continue
the ongoing celebration of her golden trophies.
Though she was all smiles live from Mickey D’s, the night was full of tears—happy ones, of course.
The independent artist who stormed the scene in the 90s as a singer with Kirk Franklin and the Family, wept
openly as she, before the large audience, reflected on the honor.
“Now, why were you crying?” asked her husband, en route to the press room after the whirlwind evening.
“Because I was just so happy!” she replied, still carrying tissues in another social cam post.
“What did you think when they called your name?” he asked. The top winner of the night said, “I was shocked
and I was surprised and I was happy!”
Her full-circle moment of industry recognition has been a longtime in the making and now, she is reveling in it.
Mann also won major awards for female vocalist and CD of the year for "Best Days."
Kirk Franklin's "Take Me to the King" was named song of the year.
