Michelle Williams Preps New Music Video + Album Release:
Hopes Industry Is ‘Welcoming’
By Katie B:: EEW Magazine Entertainment News
Comeback Gospel singer Michelle Williams of R&B group “Destiny’s Child” has confirmed via Twitter that she is
currently shooting a companion video for her current single, “If We Had Your Eyes.”
“I cannot wait for you guys to experience the video for my single…coming very soon” she tweeted, attaching
stills from the set.
In both shots, the singer is wearing two variations of all black outfits. One is an after-five halter gown and the
other, a sassy urban getup featuring a tassle top. Each photo angle captures a pose that obscures the singer’s
face.
The roll-out of the video is the next phase of promotion for the petite vocalist’s Journey to Freedom album,
slated to be released later this year.
In an interview with Essence, she said, "I just hope that music, and consumers in general, are welcoming to me.”
This will be Williams’ first solo effort since 2008’s secular release, Unexpected, which struggled to find an
audience, only moving 14,000 units in its first week according to official Soundscan numbers, and debuting at
#42 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart.
In January 2010, after finding no success musically following the disbandment of Destiny’s Child, it was
announced that she had parted ways with her management, Matthew Knowles and Music World Entertainment.
Williams now has a new team, Entertainment One (eOne), about which she told NBC’s The Grio, “They have
been absolutely amazing. I didn’t think I would like the whole boutique thing, especially coming from such a big
machine, but I like how we are a family.”
Poised to get back on track musically, Williams is sober and humble about her expectations upon reentry into
the Gospel music genre. "I never go into one genre with a takeover type of spirit. I love gospel music because
that is my foundation,” she said.
