‘Mary Mary’ Season 3 Topples Last Season's Ratings, Draws
Nearly 1 Million Viewers
Article By Paige Daniels:: EEW MAGAZINE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
It was a feast for the eyes and ears of drama lovers and nearly a million tuned in for the dish during WEtv’s
Season 3 premiere of Mary Mary, Thursday, Feb. 27.
Management spats, marital woes, and music-related concerns dominated Grammy-winning artists Tina and
Erica Campbell’s on screen time and kept a huge audience fixated.
Delivering nearly one million total viewers, up 62% over the season two premiere, TV By the Numbers reports
the controversy-laden show showed impressive growth. Not only did the television audience increase, but also,
Mary Mary’s social media buzz enjoyed a spike.
According to Social Guide, Mary Mary ranked #2 among primetime cable reality shows for Thursday night.
“We’re extremely proud of this amazing viewer response to the return of Mary Mary, on the heels of the finale of
our newest hit, SWV Reunited,” said Marc Juris, WE tv’s president and general manager. “The network has
strong momentum with both new and returning shows and it all starts with compelling programming viewers want
to watch.”
Leading up to the debut, the ladies bumped up their promotional efforts by hitting the major talk show circuit,
making appearances on: Wendy Williams, TODAY, Bethenny, and more.
Though the high profile Christian musical duo has faced some backlash over airing their dirty laundry,
according to Erica, she and her sister are resolved to put the reality back in reality TV.
In a sit-down interview with Yahoo! Music’s Billy Johnson, Jr. last week, Erica addressed why they didn’t halt
production to deal with private matters like Tina’s extramarital affair and the death of their father from cancer,
off camera.
“We could’ve just shut it down until we got back to fluffy land, but we made a commitment to tell the truth, tell the
real truth,” she said.
As transparent as they are, however, even the open and honest sisters have limits. “There was a lot the
cameras didn’t see. There was loads that the camera did not see, so we did turn them off quite a bit. It took a
long time to film. Season 3."
