Erica Campbell Shares Failed Engagement on TBN’s ‘Praise
The Lord’: ‘I Was So Embarrassed’
By Kathie Jared:: EEW Magazine News

New York, NY got a big infusion of Gospel on Monday, August 12 when CeCe Winans hosted a taping of Trinity
Broadcasting Network’s popular program, “Praise the Lord.”

The Motown Gospel artist welcomed Grammy Award-winning couple: Producer and MyBlock Records CEO
Warryn Campbell and his wife, Erica Campbell, who is branding her solo identity apart from Mary Mary for the
first time.

During their chat with Winans, the two shared how they met, what they do to balance the demands of work,
ministry and family, as well as, the head of the household’s call to teaching ministry.

As the discussion progressed, Campbell opened up about an almost-marriage that wasn’t God ordained before
she met the right one.

“When I met him, I had just come out of being somebody’s fiancé and it was the wrong thing.  And my pastor
was asking me ‘Why are you in such a rush? Trust God. Trust God. Wait on God,’” she recalled.

Single and saddened by the failure of the relationship, Campbell held out hope that Proverbs 18:22, which
says, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD,” would be fulfilled in her
life.

“And so I promised myself that the next guy that I met, that if he wasn’t my he that findeth,  I was like Lord, don’t
let me fall in love, don’t let me like him, don’t let me take his number Jesus, nothing, because I was
embarrassed from moving fast,” noting she had previously gotten engaged first, before asking God if he was
the one.

To that, Winans responded, “Well that can minister to somebody because a lot of people think when they go
that far that they still have to go down the aisle.”

Campbell chimed in, “I had a dress. I had a church. My girlfriends had all given me money for their dresses.
Photographer. Caterer. I had everything and said, ‘Lord, um [Is this him?],’ and the Lord was quiet.”

So how did she find the strength to walk away? According to her, “It was beautiful people of God around me
that talked to me, and so I had the guts to give him his ring back, call it off, and go back home. I was so
embarrassed.”

Campbell continued, “I was like I think I’m gone move away and go to my aunt’s house and my mom told me,
‘Baby, you can live anything down. You made the decision because you wanna do what God wants, not what
you want.’”

After Campbell retold the story for the live audience and millions of viewers, her now-husband interjected with
arms wide open, “And here I am.”

Everyone laughed.
