Did you know that 1 in 8 women will likely be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? That’s why it is so important to get involved with the fight against this disease and help increase awareness.
All month long, EEW Magazine is inspiring you to be mission-minded and get involved in the fight. If you don’t know how, we’ve got you covered! Here are some ways you can support survivors and those still in the fight.
1. Visit a Breast Cancer Patient:
October focuses on heavily on celebrating survivors, but don’t forget about those still actively in the fight. When patients are going through treatment, they are often sick, tired and in need of help with everyday chores. Make yourself available in some way. Show compassion, not just in word, but also, in deed.
2. Donate In the Name Of A Loved One:
Economic times are difficult and you may not have a whole lot to spare, but consider making some sort of contribution to a breast cancer charity. If you don’t know of one, the American Cancer Society is a great place to start.
3. Shop for a cause:
If you love shopping, indulge and invest in breast cancer research by purchasing from a selection of hundreds of products from which a portion of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. Organizations like Avon and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation have impressive lists of products, from cosmetics to clothing and plenty other "think pink" merchandise.
4. Be A Virtual Advocate:
Nearly everyone is wired online these days. Have you considered using your social networks like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to promote breast cancer awareness? If not, it's so easy to get started. You can share information like articles or even personal experiences with the disease to heighten awareness. Be a catalyst for life-saving, positive change.
5. Race for the cure:
Celebrate survivorship, honor those who have lost their battle, and most importantly, raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer by signing up for a Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® event. You will feel so great about helping others. Find a race near you here.
6. Buy A Gift:
Let a survivor or a woman currently in the fight know you are thinking of her. If you cannot get to where they are, send flowers or a great gift from The Breast Cancer Site that has wonderful gifts and also, funds mammograms with a portion of proceeds.
7. Participate In "Pink-Out Prayer"
What is pink-out prayer? Well, for the month of October (and beyond if you'd like) designate a specific hour of the day, every day, to pray for someone who is going through a breast cancer battle. Prayer changes things and responds to the fervent prayers of the righteous.
Finally, remember to take care of you.
Are you over 40? Have you been keeping up with your mammograms? Are you doing what you need to do to detect the disease as early as possible? Sign up for an early detection plan here.
