Mandisa’s New Hit ‘Overcomer’ Inspired By Robin Roberts
Harrowing Health Battle
By Stacy Avery::  EEW Magazine Entertainment Reporter

We all love being inspired by a good story and here’s one. Everyone’s favorite Contemporary Christian artist
and American Idol alum, Mandisa, has an encouraging hit single, “Overcomer,” spawned by the harrowing
health battle of Christian GMA Anchor, Robin Roberts.

The thrice Grammy Award-nominated singer told
Hollywood Reporter, it all began “when I was on Good Morning
America. I gave a copy of my [What If We Were Real] CD to Robin Roberts, knowing she was going to be out
for her bone marrow transplant.”

Aside from gifting Roberts, who recently accepted the Arthur Ashe Award for courage at the 2013 ESPY
Awards, with a CD, in 2012, Mandisa also created a scrapbook of prayers during the beloved media maven’s
tough recovery battle.

“Her song Stronger from the album ‘What If We Were Real’ really helped me get through my recovery,” Roberts
told viewers the day she made her return to television, after being serenaded by Mandisa’s rendition of “Ain’t
No Mountain High Enough.”

“I have listened to it over and over again."

According to Mandisa, “You’re not an ‘Overcomer’ if you don’t face anything difficult. You are an overcomer if
you face your battles and come out on top, just as I have, walking through the battles in my own life.”

“Overcomer” is No. 1 on the Christian Digital Songs chart. Haven't heard it? Listen below.
