Article By Elaine Hempstead:: EEW Magazine
He got her attention, that's for sure.
When a Christian pastor suggested Hollywood has a gay agenda of which Ellen Degeneres is a part, she took
to her show to shut that down.
A Christian Post article by Larry Tomczak titled “Are You Aware of the Avalanche of Gay Programming
Assaulting Your Home?” ruffled the lesbian television host’s feathers.
“In the article, the pastor criticizes a lot of TV shows for promoting gay agendas,” Degeneres explained on her
show Wednesday. “He says that Glee has over five [gay] characters. Modern Family had a gay wedding.
Anderson Cooper boasts about his homosexuality. If you ask me, Larry is watching a lot of gay TV.”
The audience laughed.
The 56-year-old, who has an infectious and charming personality took special issue with Tomczak referencing
her marriage to actress Portia De Rossi with the use of quotation marks. She did not appreciate his effort to
obstruct the LBGTQ community’s movement to redefine the Bible’s definition of marriage as inclusive of gays.
"OK, let's just break this down. First of all, I'm not 'married',” Degeneres said making air quotes with her fingers.
“I'm married. That's all.”
Within the gay community, there is a deep resentment of the notion that there is an organized “agenda” to
indoctrinate the public.
Yet, there is.
There can be no acceptance of the lifestyle if it is not first normalized in the eyes of the public. This is the
reason for incorporating same-sex relationships into film, television and advertising projects.
With millions of Americans tuned into their favorite shows, they bond with the characters they see daily or
weekly, thus increasing society’s acceptance of certain viewpoints and ideals.
It’s not that complicated or convoluted, really.
But “gay agenda” obviously sounds sinister to some people.
To argue on the opposite end of the spectrum, there is also a “black agenda,” but we just call it the civil rights
movement. And since there is not yet a wholesale acceptance that gays fall within that context, their efforts to
naturalize their lifestyle—which some argue is not a choice—is even more difficult.
In Tomczak’s Christian Post piece, he stepped on some toes with clear examples of the pervasiveness of
homosexual integration into mainstream entertainment. That is undeniable.
He argues that it is the Christian’s role to guard the impressionable hearts and minds of our youth, so they will
not be led astray by false, anti-biblical teaching.
“Being 56 years old, childless and with your third ‘partner,’ you may not understand the awesome responsibility
it is to shape impressionable and vulnerable children,” he wrote in a rebuttal article titled “Ellen DeGeneres: An
Open Letter of My Criticism and Her Response to the Influence of Homosexuality in the Media.”
Tomczak added, “Ellen, those of us raising children and grandchildren make lots of responsible choices to
ensure the little ones entrusted to our care become productive, healthy individuals. In that spirit of kindness
and compassion you advocate, give us the space we need here.”
Watch Degeneres respond.
