||One of God’s greatest callings is the call to be a parent. If He has blessed you with children, raise them
up to be warriors for Christ.
How you might do so is detailed in this list of 4 Bible-based tips.
1. Read the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:15 (NLT) says, “You have been taught the holy Scriptures from
childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ
Jesus.” If we are to raise up disciples for Christ, we must teach them the Word of God. Read them
stories from the Old and New Testaments, or hold at-home Bible studies.
2. Discipline in love. Hebrews 12:11 (ESV) reads, “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather
than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
Just as God has to discipline us, at times, we must do the same to our children. As much as they may
not like it, if you do it in love, not anger, it will help mold them into more effective Christians. Discipline
also teaches them to obey and respect authority figures.
3. Practice patience. Proverbs 14:29 (NIV) tells us, “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but
one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” Raising well-rounded children is an impossible feat if you
have no patience. You have to be patient when teaching them, when listening to their side of the story
about how the vase magically broke, and when they do things out of rebellion. If you lack patience, pray
that you are made complete in love, because patience is a trait birthed out of love.
4. Be kind. The first line of 1 Corinthians 13:4 is this, “Love is patient, love is kind.” Treat your children
with kindness, and shower them with unconditional love. For, “children are a gift from the LORD; they
are a reward from him,” (Psalm 127:3 [NLT]). Treasure and cherish the blessing that God has given you
from the womb, because they are your own little angels sent down from heaven.
